RAIL networks, infrastructure and roads throughout East Devon will be receiving a slice of a £1 billion cake.

The cash boost was announced this week and will be spread throughout the region, part of the Governments plan of bringing forward public works to jump-start the economy.

They hope to cut congestion and significantly increase rail capacity, Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon confirmed.

Some of the money will also go to Exeter Airport to speed up the delivery of improved transport links to offer more environmentally-friendly options for transporting freight.
