EXMOUTH has been selected to represent the South West in the National Finals of Britain in Bloom in the large coastal town category this summer.Exmouth will be going head-to-head with popular seaside resorts including Scarborough, Felixstowe, Southport, Southsea and South Shields. Now a Britain in Bloom national judge will be making an impromptu inspection of the town between April 12 and May 4.Chairman of Exmouth in Bloom, former mayor Cllr Pat Graham, explained that this will be so he can get a 'flavour' of effort put in by local volunteers throughout the year - and that he will be looking at the whole community not just the areas visited by the judges in the summer. Cllr Graham said: "Our Bloom campaign is not just about fabulous flower displays, it's about teamwork incorporating all parts of the community, young and old. It's also about working with local businesses to ensure Exmouth looks its very best. I would ask everyone to help keep our town looking clean and tidy over the coming weeks." In the run up to the judging, an open meeting, called Welcome to Exmouth in Bloom, will be held on Thursday, April 10, at 7.30pm, at All Saints Church Hall, Exeter Road, where members of the public are invited.Members of Exmouth in Bloom and other associated groups will be on hand to explain how everyone can contribute to Exmouth's entry as a national finalist. One of the initiatives for this year is well underway, the Exmouth in Bloom website www.exmouthinbloom.org.uk which should be available to view by the middle of this month.
