EXMOUTH’S new town crier Roger Bourgein has been out and about in his full regalia meeting the public, traders and civic leaders this week. Roger took over from the late Garth Gibson two weeks ago and has been on numerous official functions with Mayor Darryl Nicholas and Deputy Mayor Sandy Sutton.

Roger took over from the late Garth Gibson two weeks ago and has been on numerous official functions with Mayor Darryl Nicholas and Deputy Mayor Sandy Sutton.

His first official function was at the Help For Heroes Fundraising street party, in Lawn Road, on Sunday, September 12 and, before that, Roger was last seen by the public ‘auditioning’ in the Magnolia Centre at the end of July.

He said: “Any new town crier faces an impossible task to follow Garth Gibson.

“His formidable reputation is so strong and lives on in the community. I will start gently and if I can bring half of what Garth brought to Exmouth, I will be more than happy.”
