A footpath in the centre of Budleigh, which was closed for several weeks, has been reopened.

The path, which links Budleigh Salterton Medical Centre with the town’s library, was closed at the end of January, due to fears over its safety.

However, after an assessment by Devon Highways officers, it is once again open to the public.

County councillor Christine Channon said that cracks in the path, which are very old, were found not to be a problem, and although officers will continue to monitor a wall in the brook, there was no reason to keep the path closed.

She said: “They did a very thorough survey. It’s a victory for common sense at the end of the day.”
