A 'gobsmacked' Ex -mouth in Bloom committee welcomed national floral judges last week as the town made its first ever appearance at Britain in Bloom's top level.Judges Jeff Bates and Jim Knight began a three-hour tour of Exmouth's floral splendour in Manor Gardens. The duo said Exmouth, winners of the St Bridget Cup in the South West small town's category, faced a tough challenge, "like the step up from the Premier League to the Champions League".Exmouth in Bloom chairman Pat Graham said: "We think this must be the first time we have ever had judges down for the national, we're just gobsmacked. "We're delighted as we love to show off this lovely town of ours."The judges were keen to note Exmouth's sustainability of plating. In eco-friendly times the Bloom committee and supporters from the District Council's street team have been keen to emphasise the green credentials. Water usage has been reduced with improved compost and soil techniques, while all seasonal plants are recycled as compost, and year-long planting has been a key part of the Exmouth bid for prizes.
