More than 60 youngsters, aged between 10 and 16, have taken part in Topsham's annual summer youth activities event
THE ORGANISER of a Topsham-based youth activity programme has hailed this year’s venture as a glowing success.
Maggie Butt, of Monmouth Street, said more than 60 youngsters, aged between 10 and 16, got involved with the Summer Youth Activities event which she organises every year for the Topsham Community Association.
It is the ninth year the event has taken place.
She said: “People have thoroughly enjoyed all the old favourites – sailing, cricket, badminton, water polo, clay work, fencing, mosaic-making, baseball and tennis.
“There was one new activity – music and drama, with 15 youngsters who tried their hands at singing, acting, playing drums and the guitar as well as writing scripts.
“After only two days under the expert guidance of tutors Emma Ravensfield and Marie Kelsall, they put on a short production for their parents which was great fun for the audience and participants.”
The event is an opportunity for children to socialise and steer away from boredom during their summer school holidays.
Mrs Butt added: “The youngsters enjoy working with their contemporaries as well as meeting new friends.
“Parents of course are very appreciative that their children are happily occupied in the holidays, with the opportunity of taking part in a choice of 14 activity sessions.
“I should like to say how grateful I am to the Topsham community for strong support every year.
“Shops and houses display our posters - a few of them also acting as booking form distribution centres and Richard Bradford always supplies wood backings for the mosaic making.
“Everyone is very encouraging and appreciative!
