YOUNGSTERS are being urged to 'have fun but stay safe' while out trick-or-treating in Topsham.

Devon and Cornwall police are warning individuals to carry a torch and fully charged mobile if they go outdoors over Halloween.

Percy Giles, PCSO for Topsham, said: "People should take an adult with them, stay in well-lit areas and ideally call at the homes of people they know as opposed to those they don't."

The force is also working with youngsters and schools to reduce the amount of anti-social behaviour during Halloween.

Posters with the message 'your idea of fun might not be someone else's' are being displayed to encourage young people to think about how their activities might affect other members of the community.
