Swimmers came out in their hundreds to dive into Topsham’s outdoor pool to start raising money for new facilities.

The pool recently had its roof replaced and will have new pipes installed next month.

The next step is to raise money to update its changing rooms.

Topsham’s community pool secretary, Andrea Veale, said: “The swim kick-started our 2017 fundraising.

“Any money that we raise this year will go to replacing some of the facilities.”

She added: “The swim was our best New Year’s Day swim ever.

“We had some really good feedback. It was a great community day.

“Despite the rain, it was the best way to start the new year.
