A Topsham woman is celebrating after reaching the semi-finals of a national beauty competition.
Sasha Ingham, 21, finished second in the public vote, for candidates from across the country, but she was still chosen for the next stage of Miss England.
She admits the ‘hard work’ starts now as she prepares for the event at Kelham Hall Country Park in Nottinghamshire on Saturday, June 11.
The 21-year-old, of Fore Street, said: “I’m ecstatic, over the moon and a whole load of other things. It is a bit overwhelming, but in a good way.
“I’d like to thank everyone, who voted for me – I can’t begin to describe the impact they have had. I have a chance of being crowned Miss Devon; the judges will select 10 girls to reach the final.
“There are numerous rounds in the semi-finals. For example, I will have to take part in a fashion shoot, make my own dress from recyclable materials and then model it on the catwalk.
“My whole family will be coming up to Nottinghamshire to support me. I have had a lot of people messaging me, saying well done.”
The Journal has reported how Sasha wants to use the competition to inspire the next generation.
Sasha, who has battled back from low confidence, says it is ‘vital’ that kids believe in themselves from a young age.
She revealed she now plans to raise £1,000 for the Beauty with a Purpose charity.
Beauty with a Purpose works to help disadvantaged children all over the world.
Sasha continued: “We all care about the next generation, don’t we? I believe it is very important that young children believe in themselves as it will help them to tackle things in later life.
“I already have a school in Exeter which has invited me to give a talk to the children about self-confidence.”
Angie Beasley, director of Miss England, says Sasha has an ‘excellent chance’.
She said: “Sasha has done really well. We get around 20,000 girls applying every year. She is a very active candidate, I have seen a lot of the stuff she has posted on Twitter. I’d say, in my opinion, that she has an excellent chance.”
