Members of and volunteers at Topsham Museum welcomed the Lord Mayor of Exeter for the 50th anniversary of its first opening.
In 1967, Dorothy Holman opened the museum in the sail loft at her Strand home.
This year, Lord Mayor Cynthia Thompson and her consort David Thompson attended the opening.
A spokesman for the museum said: “Miss Holman always sat in a theatre seat at the top of the stairs to welcome visitors.
“This year, it has been possible for visitors to sit in the same chair to listen to recordings of her memories.”
