HUNDREDS of staff, students and old boys and girls gathered for an emotional farewell to Rolle College last Friday after 60 years of education at the campus.Former employees and alumni returned to Rolle to see the site off with a bang. College buildings are now being cleared as the University of Plymouth's faculty of education leaves Exmouth.A fireworks display lit up the skies while partygoers, including new graduates, celebrated the 'spirit of Rolle' by burying a time capsule in the grounds.Husband and wife Lorraine and Phil Tushingham have decades of Rolle experience as administrator and head of performance arts, respectively."A night like tonight shows just how much the college has meant to people", said Lorraine. "After 60 years of achievement, Rolle will forever remain in the hearts of the people who have worked and studied here. It really is the end of an era."Phil added: "It was wonderful to see so many old faces come back for the night" Speeches by Professor Michael Totterdell, Mayor Joy Whipps and recently-retired Marpool School head Eric Howard preceded music from Exmouth Shanty Men and college bands.Graduates and guest of honour Pam St Clement - Eastenders' Pat Butcher and a former Rolle student - had earlier collected their honours at Exeter Cathedral. The time capsule contained the black and purple Rolle scarf, photos of Puddles, the campus cat, sports teams and staff, plus press cuttings and a 'Save Rolle College' t-shirt.
