BRIXINGTON came under the spotlight when an ITV camera crew and team of decorators arrived to give one lucky family a home makeover.

The 60 Minute Makeover team were in Ashfield Close revamping the semi-detached home of Diana Habbishaw and her two daughters, aged 20 and 27.

The programme will be shown on ITV1 in the autumn.

The 42-strong team, fronted by TV personality and Big Brother winner Craig Phillips, took over the normally sleepy close as they worked against the clock to redecorate the Habbishaws' home.

Upstairs windows were thrown wide open as dismantled furniture and bedroom units were pushed through, down to waiting skip below.

A large black leather-look headboard was seen being carried through the front door.

And kitchen fitter lorries from Exeter and Honiton were parked up in the close for several hours.

Swarms of workmen, decked out in identical white dungarees and black t-shirts, busied themselves carrying a host of boxes, wood, tools, paint and other building equipment needed for the revamp project.

Neighbouring properties had gazebos erected on their driveways so the team could work under cover if the heavens opened.

Mum-of-two Diana, 54, said: "My daughters applied for it weeks ago. It was a complete surprise!

"I love it. It's just so different. I was out when they did it. My daughter was here. There was a team of 42 and they did four rooms. You should have seen the size of the skip outside!

"Everybody was coming over asking Craig for his autograph.

"I have changed things round a little bit and I am still bringing boxes back in."

Job done, the 60-Minute Makeover team planned to spend the evening on Sandy Bay beach tucking into fish and chips.

Scouser Craig said it was his first visit to Exmouth.

The previous night the team stayed at the Exeter Court Hotel, at Kennford.

Craig told the Journal the team had spent the evening before drinking bottles of rose wine in the Hogshead pub, in Fore Street, Exeter, before heading for Rococo nightclub in Mary Arches Street.

"We are doing 80 shows and we are half way through. We have two teams and the number one team has finished filming so it was like a wrap party for them," he said. "About forty of us went out and painted the town red-ish and blue-ish!"
