A free family day held at Ocean on The Esplanade was hailed “a huge success”, as LED Leisure Management launched the rebranding of the seafront venue.

Residents turned out in force to see what Ocean has to offer as it opened its doors on Sunday morning.

More than 1,000 children enjoyed the soft play area, while parents relaxed and enjoyed themselves at the Ocean Deck Café.

There was also an opportunity for visitors to take a tour of the Ocean Suite and take a cream tea on the terrace while admiring the seafront view.

LED’s chief executive, Peter Gilpin, said: “We were bowled over by the enthusiasm and support from the local community.

“Everyone was amazed by the first-floor soft play and café and those who had never previously experienced the Ocean Suite were extremely impressed.

“The team at Ocean has worked tirelessly to ensure a warm welcome for the local community and we look forward to welcoming everyone back.”

Duty manager Jon Burden said: “This iconic building was seen complete for the first time, in its best possible light and tremendously well supported by the people of Exmouth and East Devon.”
