This is the reality

In last week's Journal, seven correspondents listed many arguments against the Premier Inn development.
I agree with them all but, you know, this is nothing new for Exmouth.
Local government can do what it likes because the apathetic majority allows it to do so. Most people live some way from the sea and feel disconnected from the town centre and the seafront.
This is why we have hare-brained schemes such as the high-rise blocks on the docks, the Strand altered at a cost of £3m, the demolition of the Customs House to be replaced by yet another 5-storey block, the overbearing bowling alley and the Elizabeth Hall replaced by Premier Inn’s four storeys.
Eventually, the unique environment and atmosphere that many tourists associate with Exmouth will be obliterated and the violation of the area will be complete. People like me can protest till we are “blue in the face” but this is the reality.
