An Exmouth youth theatre group scooped top prizes at an award ceremony known as the 'Oscars of the South West'.

Centre Stage members celebrated as they walked away with two prizes for their production of Phantom of the Opera at the Rose Bowl Awards.

The awards night recognises and encourages excellence in amateur theatre in the South West.

Sylvie Hodgson, 16, of Centre Stage, won best actress in the South West, while the group walked away with the Coup de Theatre, a prize that acknowledges a moment of excellence in their show.

The executive chairman of Centre Stage, Mark Worsley, said: “I am absolutely delighted for Sylvie, as well as the company.

“It was a cracking show and one of the biggest we have ever done.

“We had six nominations and were delighted that two of them won. We couldn’t ask any more from them.”
