Tesco withdraws Budleigh application - ‘but still coming’

Tesco says it is still planning to come to Budleigh, despite a planning application for its proposed store having been withdrawn.

The supermarket chain had applied for planning permission to put up its signage at the former SM Prior and Son shop in Fore Street, where it announced in December it was planning to open a Tesco Express.

A petition of more than 600 names against the store was handed to East Devon District Council, which rules on planning, and Budleigh Salterton Town Council opposed the Tesco application.

Tesco has now formally withdrawn its application – but says this is not the end of its plans.

A Tesco spokesman said: “The council has asked us for more information, so we have temporarily withdrawn the application. We will keep the community updated.”
