A BRIXINGTON teenager and another from Woodbury who threatened an Exmouth shop assistant with a meat cleaver and baseball bat for cash have admitted robbery.Jamie Stuart, 18, of Palm Close, and a 16-year-old Woodbury boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, both admitted robbing Hulham Road Stores, at Exeter Crown Court. The teenagers made off with 170 following the incident on Friday, April 3.Shop assistant Alex Harris, a Bicton College outdoor leisure student, who has worked at the store for 11 months, was terrified when the pair, wearing balaclavas and hooded tops, thrust a meat cleaver into his face and threatened him with a baseball bat while demanding he hand over cash and cigarettes.Sentencing of Stuart and the 16-year-old joint offender was adjourned for the preparation of reports to a date yet to be set.Exmouth police said they were pleased the pair had admitted the robbery and said it was down to the work of local officers the teenagers had been promptly arrested.Hulham Road Stores was praised for its 'excellent' CCTV system, which police said was a 'crucial element' of the case and one of the main factors in helping them to identify who committed the offence and secure an early arrest. The police said they hoped the pair would receive a custodial sentence.Exmouth CID detective sergeant Pete Jones said: "On the night the two offenders were arrested within minutes of the robbery. This was due to the excellent work by the officers on duty using their local knowledge and PC Gareth Bunston, who was in the right place at the right time. They were arrested within eight minutes of the offence. "I am pleased that the two offenders have chosen to plead guilty at an early stage to prevent the victim having to go through any more trauma."Robberies of this type in Exmouth are most unusual. It's pleasing for the police to see when one does occur they are able to bring the offenders to justice in such a prompt manner.
