An Exmouth teenager has been fined for racially abusing a German male in the town centre.
Exeter Magistrates Court heard that Joshua Hempstead, 18, of Green Close, became involved in an altercation with the male outside the Clipper pub, during which he assaulted him.
As Hempstead was being led away by police following the assault, he was heard to shout racial abuse at his victim.
Hempstead, who admitted causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress by his words, was ordered to pay an 80 fine and a 15 victim surcharge.
Hempstead had previously pleaded guilty to the assault, along with one separate count of assault by beating and a further count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He will now be sentenced for those offences at Exeter Crown Court.
