THE regional conference of South West talking newspapers takes place in St Joseph Primary School next month.

The conference, on June 27, will be attended by the Mayor and Town Crier and will highlight the work of volunteers in producing and distributing tapes of news and items around the region.

In Exmouth alone the Journal goes out to 100 listeners every week and the conference will hear from listeners like Patricia Stott, Devon Association for the Blind's Sue Auton, and Janet Howitt of the Audio Description Service.

Visitors will also be updated on the latest equipment - with a demonstration - and tips on how to buy, renovate and equip your own studio.

Chairman of Exmouth Talking Newspaper Bob Donald said: "Having bought and equipped our own studio, we are now busy converting to digital recording on to memory sticks, which should enhance the quality of our recordings.
