Archant

The Budleigh Salterton Summer Flower and Produce Show was held on Saturday at the Public Hall.

Concerns that the warm weather earlier in the year and the recent torrential rains would mean less entries proved unfounded, with 250 exhibits providing a show that the Chairman thought was one of the best in recent years.

Changes to the schedule meant more opportunities to show dahlias and summer-flowering shrubs and both classes were popular.

The Store Cupboard with homemade produce was well-supported, with local PCSO Chantalle Major winning the best entry again with a beautiful fruit flan.

Cups were won by Norman Ling (roses, fruit, vegetables; Leach Cup for Master Gardener), Pat Baxter (Norrish Cup), Diane Franzman (Britain in Bloom Cup), Diana Tremlett (Lady Dulcie Scott Cup), Sue Palin (Bourne Cup for most Store Cupboard points in year), Theo Hooper (Junior Cup), Rosemary and Neville Humphreys (RHS Banksian Medal for most points in horticultural classes in the year).

First prizewinners:

Dahlia classes: S Ashby, R and N Humphreys, P Martin.

Rose classes: N Ling, S Muddle.
