Armchair Theatre Puppets will be visiting Budleigh Salterton Library next month as part of the 2017 Summer Reading Challenge.

The long-established puppet theatre company will be performing ‘Burglar Bill’ at the Station Road venue on Wednesday, August 16 from 2.30pm.

The Summer Reading Challenge, which encourages children to read six of their choice while they are off school, launched at the weekend (Saturday, July 15).

This years theme centres around the ‘Animal Agents’ book collection.

The puppet theatre performance is being organised by Libraries Unlimited, the charity responsible for running libraries in Devon.

Ciara Eastell, chief executive of Libraries Unlimited said: “Reading is a key part of children’s learning, not only does it enhance their literacy levels, it can help to encourage empathy and creativity, improves concentration and can teach children about the world around them.

“The Summer Reading Challenge is a great opportunity to ensure that reading habits don’t drop off during the summer.”
