MORE than £2000 was raised for charities as a result of an event presented by Topsham mountaineer Norman Croucher OBE.
Called Five Miles High and Legless, the talk and film-showing at Matthews Hall raised money for the West of England School and College as well as a rotary project in Jaipur and Hospiscare.
The event documented Mr Croucher’s remarkable life in which he has scaled more than 50 mountains despite having two artificial legs.
He was awarded an OBE in 1977 for services to promoting adventure sports for people with disabilities.
An auction was also held during the evening. A painting of the Exe Estuary belonging to Ray Balkwill received one of the largest bids of the night and sold for £310.
