The delay in building a cycle path across the Green in Budleigh Salterton has been blamed on district engineers concentrating on damage from last year's storms.

The £20,000 scheme was voted for by residents in 2013, as the best way of spending Section 106 money, due to the town from housing developers, along with outdoor gyms which opened last year.

A resident at this week’s Budleigh Salterton Town Council meeting asked why the scheme, to be delivered by East Devon District Council, had not yet come to fruition.

In response, town and district councillor Tom Wright said: “The cycle track has been put on the back burner. The engineers have been very busy dealing with the effects of the storms last winter and haven’t had the capacity to deal with things not seen as a priority.”

Cllr Wright then reassured Councillor Chris Kitson that there was no danger of the money being lost, saying that, once a scheme has been decided on, the funds cannot be taken away.
