STOMP, the Withycombe Raleigh School band who specialise in playing old pickle tubs, water bottles and waste bins, performed in front of 5,500 people the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday.
The 47-strong troupe was one of scores of schools and 14 acts to play in the 2009 School Proms.
"It was fantastic," said Gill Chalkley, a year six teacher and music leader at the school: "Going up on the coach there were quite a few nerves
"When they first entered the hall they gasped. But when we found out we were on second it was a relief."
Other performances included a mass choir and orchestra and she said: "The highlight was at the end when they all sang Land of Hope and Glory.
"With the ticker tape and bursting the balloons as they came down it felt like last night of the proms.
