Stomp got a roar of approval
I rarely, if ever, write to newspapers, but last week I had the sheer joy of witnessing one of the most outstanding performances I have ever seen.
I rarely, if ever, write to newspapers, but last week I had the sheer joy of witnessing one of the most outstanding performances I have ever seen.
Along with other proud parents and grandparents, we were part of the 5,500-strong audience that packed out The Albert Hall in London on the occasion of 'Music for Youth's Schools Prom'.
We were there to support Withycombe Raleigh School's Stomp group as they headlined the whole evening with a breath-taking rendition of The Gathering.
They held the entire, massive audience utterly spell-bound by their energy, rhythmical skills and fantastic presentation.
The audience's roar of approval spoke for itself at the conclusion of the piece. The ovation was totally deserved and I, as a retired former professional musician, want to say a simple thank you to both Gill Chalkley and all her wonderful boys and girls. They surely did Exmouth proud!
I hope that, long after their schooldays are over, these stunning lads and lasses will remember the day they brought a capacity Albert Hall audience to their feet. What a joy to celebrate Exmouth youth on such a prestigious occasion.

Our little town is filled with very special children who, daily, bring their parents such justifiable pride. They are our greatest asset and it is time we gave them the recognition they deserve. Instead, a mindless minority of graffiti scrawlers and moronic vandals who seem to dominate your pages.
Please, I urge all your readers to recognise the massive contribution made by 'our' youngsters - from Centre Stage to the smallest school Nativity play. They are our pride and joy and we should be loud in our praise and recognition of their efforts. They surely reflect the best of Exmouth.
