AN eye-opening expedition to Colombia will provide an Exmouth man with the chance promote his home town and learn Spanish, plus a few lessons in life.Thirty-one year-old Steve Merrett will head to the South American republic on May 1 for a five-week Rotary-sponsored exchange programme.Joining three other travellers and a Rotary group leader, Mr Merrett says the opportunity could be a life-changing experience."I am hoping to come back having learnt a lot from the trip, and I am looking forward to the chance for personal development," said Mr Merrett. "It is part of the world which a lot of people might not get to go to as a holiday destination, and we get the opportunity to stay with Rotarians in Bogota. This is great as we will be really immersed in the culture." The group has been studying Spanish for the past five months, and will give presentations to Colombian audiences in their own language. The programme will see the team visit schools, orphanages, Colombian authorities and charities.
