The new headteacher of St Joseph's Primary School has vowed to 'keep the ship sailing in the right direction' after being appointed to the role.

Rachel Pattison has agreed to take on the position at the school, in Long Causeway, on a temporary basis, alongside her duties as head of Marpool Primary School.

St Joseph’s, which is part of the CAST academy set up for catholic schools in Devon, has been trying without success to appoint a permanent head since their last one, Cathy Doyle, retired earlier this year.

Rachel will be at the school on Tuesdays and will also be available for appointments on other days, if needed.

She will be assisted by the school’s new head of teaching and learning, Nicola Taylor-Bashford, following her promotion from year six teacher.

“Schools need a strategic lead and I approached St Joseph’s and said I would provide a lead for them,” Rachel said.

“St Joseph’s is already a good school, but it needs someone at the helm.”

Rachel thanked the governors of Marpool Primary School for allowing her to help.
