A Plan to knock down an Indian restaurant in Exmouth and build 10 new homes in its place has been backed by civic leaders.

Exmouth Town Council’s planning committee on Monday (April 3) discussed an application by Punch Taverns to replace the Spice Lounge, in Prince of Wales Drive, with a mix of terraced housing and flats.

If given the go-ahead, the land which is next to the busy Dinan Way link road could be transformed into seven two-bedroom houses and three flats.

Concerns have been raised locally about the impact on traffic in the area.

The town council planning committee gave its backing to the proposal, but did have concerns that a fence should be put in place around the car park to make sure headlights from vehicles at night do not affect neighbouring properties.

East Devon District Council will make the final decision on the application.
