BUDLEIGH Salterton Lions Club's popular Bank Holiday balloon race raised more than £700 in support of the charity Medic Alert.Hundreds of biodegradable balloons were released from Budleigh promenade throughout the day as scores of visitors gave generously to the charity stalls set up along the sea front.Lions' Club spokesman Geoff Paver said he hoped the event would raise £1,000 for Medic Alert once all the money was counted. Mr Paver said: "It was an absolutely wonderful day. We had 25 charity stands. The event has grown in popularity. This was its tenth year and we had more people than ever before."Medic Alert is the only registered charity that provides a life-saving identification system for people with hidden medical conditions and allergies. A Medic Alert identity tag provides medical personnel immediate access to vital information in the event of an emergency.l The Lions Club duck race is on September 21. The ducks are launched at 11am from Clammer Bridge and the race ends at White Bridge, near South Farm.
