EXMOUTH'S young star Tom Andrews has gone from strength to strength, coming top in singing competitions across the country. The 14-year-old boy ended the year with a bang after being announced runner-up in the solo singer category at the national talent showcase Festival4Stars in Glasgow. The success followed a year of high praise from judges and numerous national competitions from FX Factor to Idol 2008.Tom said: "It has been quite a fun year - I never thought I would get this far from just singing."I didn't think I would get through the first round but I am really proud. I have been improving step by step."He sang Something inside so strong, by Labi Siffre, and was congratulated on his song choice and performance by the professional judges from the music industry and given excellent advice which Tom hopes will lead to other possibilities. The guest celebrity judge was Duncan James who said he loved Tom's voice and presented him with a certificate.Tom hopes that he will use these experiences to improve his pitch and pick different songs for the start of another round of competitions next year, beginning with Britain's Got Talent in February. He will continue to take lessons from popular singer Joss Stone's mum and perform with the group at different events. He said: "I would like to thank my mum and dad for all their great help and my old singing teacher, Fran James, for believing in me."Anyone interested in providing Tom with a venue to sing at to gain live experience can contact mum Lynne on 07860507513 or visit www.myspace.com/tomandrews8
