MARPOOL Primary School pupils scored a double success when both the girls; and the boys' gymnastics teams were runners-up in a prestigious regional competition. In their first ever competitive outing, both of the six-strong teams, comprising pupils aged six to 11, took home silver medals at last weekend's South West Carita House Gymnastics Finals at Wellsprings Leisure Centre in Taunton. They went head-to-head with 14 other teams, finalists from primary schools right across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, in the competition organised by the South West Amateur Gymnastics Association.Competing in category one, for primary age pupils under eleven years, each team had to perform a group sequence vault which they were judged on.But to gain a high ranking each team member had to perform good individual sequence vaults.Marpool's acting headteacher and gymnastics enthusiast Rachel Pattison said: "For such a young team in their first competition they did fantastically well, we are really proud of them."It's the start of the season and this result will hopefully be the beginning of a very successful season, and will inspire them in future competitions."The teams were: Boys U11 - Josh Brown, aged nine (Captain), Alfie Downs, eight, Josh Kilner, six. Matthew Salter, aged six, Thomas Bessford, six, and Solomon Betts, eight.Girls U11 - Hannah Bessford, 11, (Captain), Chloe Dorman, 11, Lindsay Parkinson, 10, Melanie Parkinson, eight, Kiah Waller, nine, Katy Davey, nine..
