Your readers might like to know how ordinary folk, like our cousin Rose, have responded to the dreadful fires in Victoria, Australia. At the outset, many of the genealogists I am in touch with through Ancestry voluntarily turned out and drove hundreds of miles to help fight the flames.Children in Rose's school in W A have already raised over 10,000 dollars for their fellows in Victoria. People who own motor homes and caravans have driven them there and given them to those who have lost all they owned. Scores of truck drivers have donated days of their time to haul loads of furniture and clothes right across the country from Perth to Victoria. Rose says the disaster appalled everyone, but the coming together in response is a healing experience. Silver linings are truly a blessing. Ann Prior,(via email).
