THE region’s top business people will learn just how a 712-year-old family business in East Budleigh transformed into a modern organisation with a futuristic outlook.
At a special lunch and presentation next month Clinton Devon Estates have invited members of the Institute of Directors (IoD) in Devon and Cornwall to discover the secret of their longevity.
Estates Director John Varley will explain how the Estate has focused on the environment, stewardship and family values for its direction and now boasts a business plan that looks 50 years ahead.
IoD Devon and Cornwall Branch Chairman Richard Ayre said: “Very few businesses have ten year business plans never mind ones that stretch across half a century.
“People familiar with the Channel 4 programme ‘Country House Rescue’ will be only too aware of the difficulties of financing a large estate house in this age, let alone thousands of acres of farm and woodland and numerous cottages. It can only be done with a brave and watertight business plan, and Clinton Devon is an absolute inspiration to businesses in Devon.”
Managing farm, wood and heathland, commercial and residential property has netted the estates awards including the 2010 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Sustainable Development category and being ranked 11th in the UK in the Sunday Times Best Small Companies to Work For.
