The findings of a survey held to determine what the people of Exmouth want to see from a planned seafront redevelopment have been published.

Seaside resort specialist HemingwayDesign was tasked with coming up with a vision for phase three of an East Devon District Council project to regenerate Exmouth seafront.Residents and businesses were polled earlier this year on their thoughts on what should be provided on the ‘phase three’ site which includes for the former Exmouth Fun Park and the plot currently being used by Harbour View Café.

Now the seafront consultant has announced the findings of the questionnaire which reveals people in the town want an ‘attractive’ place for people of all ages to enjoy leisure and an increase in active evening events and recreational opportunities.

The survey also showed that people want to maintain the site’s ‘relationship with its high quality and natural environment’ and the Queen’s Drive Space temporary attractions were ‘hugely popular’.

Wayne Hemingway, partner at HemingwayDesign, said: “From the phenomenal response we’ve received, it’s clear that people are passionate about the site and have wanted to share their views and ideas.

“We’re looking forward to the next stage of the process, working further with the people of Exmouth and East Devon District Council to create a destination that enhances Exmouth as a place to live, work and visit.”

Award-winning chef Michael Caines this week announced he would be opening a new restaurant as part of the proposed watersports centre set to build as part of ‘phase two’ of the scheme.
