STUART Line’s temporary booking office has been backed for a further 12 months despite concerns it could end up being a permanent fixture.

The owner, Ian Stuart, applied to extend the temporary relocation of the booking office on land adjacent to Mamhead Slipway.

The booking office was intended to part of a larger development possibly including a Jurassic Coast Interpretation Centre but that fell through because of funding problems.

The town manager Tony Collins said: “I support this application.”

Cllr Steve Gazzard said: “I believe that another site will be found.

“The site they are on is where most of their business comes from (next to where coaches drop off visitors.)

“I have no objection; they provide employment for over 50 people.”

The plans will now be considered by the district council.
