I must admit I was amazed and alarmed to read about the possible imposition of a sculpture on Budleigh Salterton seafront.

Like one of your correspondents of two weeks ago, I am also not an 'over my dead body' protester as I believe we should all be open to change and would, personally, welcome a good restaurant on the seafront.

However, my amazement is that any 'work of art' should be imposed on the council tax payers of Budleigh without having a referrendum as to whether we want this or think it a good idea. Who are the East Devon Pebble Project? Do they speak for us and do they have a right to decide what they think we need? I certainly hope not.

So please, council tax payers, raise your voices and demand a vote over the matter of whether or not our seafront needs further adornment before a sculpture simply appears.
