St Joseph’s Primary School’s PTA is ‘over the moon’ after receiving £4,479 of funding from the Co-op.

The funds are to be put towards outdoor play equipment, an outdoor learning space, a story corner and a veranda.

The group expressed its delight after the Co-op Local Community Fund, a scheme that provides funding to causes in the community, granted it the money.

Vice chairman of the PTA and teacher at the school, Vicky Southwell said: “We were over the moon when we found out we would receive over £4,000.

“Chairman of the PTA Sarah Strode applied for the Co-op Local Community Fund last year and we were very excited to hear we were one of the chosen charities.

“Our aim is to raise money for the school.

“We put on a variety of events throughout the year, such as the Christmas and Summer Fair as well as termly discos, film nights and this year a Summer Ball at Ocean.” Vicky added: “Our long-term project that we are saving for is the building of a veranda outside the classrooms to enable the children to use the outdoor patio area all the year round.

“This is a big project that requires a lot of fundraising.”
