A Gala ceremony has celebrated another year of excellence at Exmouth Community College.Pupils' independent achievements were honoured last Friday, July 4, in the school's Main Hall, after the school year's commendations marked out promising youngsters.The college commendation scheme, designed to foster an ethos of achievement and reward, hands out honours up to the 'platinum' standard. In the current school year alone, 28,000 commendations were handed to students of all age groups.In front of a packed audience of students and their families, prize winners in subject categories from Key Stage 4 groups, and year groups across Key Stage 3 and 4 were awarded cash prizes from £20 to £250, the congratulations of staff and peers, and the honour of their name engraved for posterity on wooden boards at the hall.Principal Tony Alexander and chair of the governors board Liz Lee presented the evening's top award, the College Premier Cup, to year 11 student Lauren Fawcett.The Lloyds TSB citizenship award, presented by Vivian Duval-Steer of Lloyds TSB, went to William Youd from year 10.Heads of department gave speeches marking the achievements of the year, as the third annual Gala Awards, organised by Deputy Principal Richard Childs, displayed academic and personal success at the College in 2007/08.PRIZESSubjectMaths, Aaron Dawson (Yr 11).English.
