NO quips about female drivers - a woman in her 30s on Thursday night drove her car into Woodbury Salterton brook after following Sat Nav

instructions.

But even though the woman from Somerset had the technology at her

fingertips, she was unable to explain her location when, at just

before 11.30pm, she called the fire service to rescue her.

And, when she tried to drive the vehicle out, the car became lodged in the mud and the woman driver burned the clutch out in her attempts to free it, said the fire brigade.

Topsham fire station officer John Elliot said: "She followed the Sat Nav to the letter. There wasn't any road and, when the Sat Nav said

turn left she did, and ended up in the brook.

"I would have thought it was pretty apparent there wasn't any road.

She went across what I can only describe as a field. It was very boggy. I am surprised she got as far as she did. She went down a mud bank and went into the brook.

"She tried to reverse up the bank and burned her clutch out. She called us because she saw smoke and could smell burning.
