Children from Withycombe Raleigh Primary School tasted success, winning a regional rugby competition.

Pupils from years five and six competed in the East Devon Tag Rugby Finals in Ottery St Mary.

After coming through a quarter final with Sidmouth, they defeated Willand in the semi-final to advance to a final against Newton Poppleford. Withycombe won the tournament, making them East Devon champions and they will advance on to the Devon finals in June.

A spokesman for the school said: “They played some excellent rugby and also played well as a team. Special thanks to all the parents for transporting the children and for their support.”
