Your coverage last week of the Exmouth Community Association’s report on the development of the seafront was excellent, but could I clarify one point?
The Exe Sailing Club has a very good clubhouse with proper changing facilities, showers and boat storage.
It is Exmouth Rowing Club which needs more support.
It was established in 1993 and is increasingly successful but, as our report says, having had to move from its original base at Shelley Beach, the club leases its current premises from East Devon District Council.
It would like a permanent, secure base, with proper changing facilities, showers and secure boat storage.
This would assist the development of the sport and its place as part of the mix of water sports attractions in Exmouth and very much help in hosting competitions.
It is a mixed club with youngsters as well as adults, male and female.
It hosts a number of rowing competitions from other clubs during the year, currently about 12.
These are often two-day events, so visiting rowers stay in accommodation and use other local facilities.
We hope that Exmouth will help the rowing club to build on its success.
