Walkers are being urged to sign up for a major charity event which returns to Exmouth next month.

The Hospiscare Twilight Walk will take place on Saturday, July 8, starting from the Maer. Walkers will have a choice of five- or 10-mile routes, with entertainment provided along the way.

The event, which this year has a 1980s theme, is open to female walkers only.

Walkers, who must be at least 12 years old, are able to register online or by phone until Wednesday, July 5, or alternatively on the day in the event arena before the walk begins at 6.30pm.

The entry fee is £17 in advance, or £25 on the day.

Included in the entry fee is a purple Twilight Walk T-shirt, chocolate and a drink, sweet treats along the route, and supper provided by Kenniford Farm, including a bacon bap or vegetarian alternative and hot drink.

Entertainment along the route will include Urban Flow Streetdance, the musician Simon Watton, Rock Choir, and the Hospiscare Choir.

Within the event arena there will be face-painting, a massage clinic, Purrfect Doggy Day Care and Latin In Line dancers.

Big Bear Coffee and an ice cream van will also be there to provide refreshments before the walk gets under way.

The event is sponsored by Western Power Distribution and the Exmouth Journal is among the supporters, along with Radio Exe, Kenniford Farm and Tesco’s Salterton Road store.

Hospiscare says it hopes this year’s event will be even more successful than the 2016 edition, when 872 walkers took part and £51,000 was raised.

A Hospiscare spokesperson said: “We are very excited about the range of entertainments on offer at this year’s Twilight Walk.

“After last year’s triumph, 2017 promises to be the best Twilight Walk yet. I’d urge anyone thinking about it to sign up immediately.”

Along with walkers, the organisers are also looking for people who might be interested in volunteering as marshals.
