Regret at loss of ‘one of Exmouth’s best shops’

Plans to convert a town centre shop into a home have been supported by members of Exmouth Town Council’s planning committee.

Planning permission is being sought for the ground floor of 125 Exeter Road, currently home to DIY Electrics, to become a two-bedroom flat.

Councillors said they regretted the loss of the shop, but could see no reason to oppose the planning application.

Councillor Bill Nash said: “We are losing probably one of the best shops in Exmouth, DIY Electrics.

“I am sorry to see it go, but it’s a good conversion.”

Councillor Tim Dumper added: “All the shops at that end of Exeter Road are suffering.”

The planning application states that residential use would ‘secure the future of this building’.

East Devon District Council will make the final decision regarding planning permission.
