The Red Arrows will fly over Exmouth on their way back to Exeter after a display at Sidmouth this evening for the annual Regatta.

High winds have caused the cancellation of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast but the Red Arrows are still set to appear.

The Lancaster Bomber and Spitfire and Hirricane were scheduled to appear at 6pm this evening in Sidmouth but organisers announced that weather conditions meant they were unable to leave their base at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

A spokesman for the organisers of the event said: “Obviously, we are very disappointed but these are 75-year-old aircraft and safety must come first. We hope with enough public support, we can encourage them to return next year.”

The Red Arrows are still scheduled to appear in Sidmouth at 6.30pm and are due back in Exeter at 7pm.

Air displays are usually confirmed and decided only in the last 30 minutes before the event but can be as late as five minutes before the scheduled time in the case of the Red Arrows.
