The challenge on Woodbury common will raise money on behalf of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF) and Individuals, pairs and teams of three are wanted on the Royal Marines 17k endurance challenge on the weekend of May 14 and 15.

Daredevils will face amusingly named obstacles including the ‘Sheep Dip’, the ‘Crocodile Pit’ and ‘Peters Pool’ as well as the usual muddy underground tunnels and black bogs.

The RMCTF have set a target to raise �6M by the 350th Birthday of the Royal Marines –on October 28 2014 and the money the Trust raises will support wounded and injured Royal Marines through their recovery as well as those still serving and facing successive tours in high threat environments and funding homecoming events, financing memorials and maintaining heritage memorials.

Alan Hardy, organiser of the event and himself a former Royal Marine, said: “All of us need to do what we can to support our Troops – and this event is particularly close to my own heart as a ‘third generation ‘Royal’ within my family.
