RECORD numbers of free trees are being distributed from the performance stage in the Manor Gardens in Exmouth tomorrow.

The scheme, run by the town council since its inception, will provide applicants with free saplings giving householders the chance to do their bit to reduce their carbon footprint.

On offer are saplings for Silver Birch, Wild Cherry, Quick Thorn, and Common Oak, Rowan, Field Maple and Hazel trees.

Clerk John Wokersien said: "This time it's a bumper crop of applications for free trees, more than we have ever distributed.

"Broad leaved trees will be supplied and support stakes will also be available if required.

"It is a great opportunity to plant trees to be allowed to grow to full height to help offset our own carbon footprints."

The trees will be given out on Friday February 20 from 11.30am to 1.30pm - but only to those who have applied to the town hall.
