Questions raised over year-round beach huts

Plans by district bosses to have beach huts at Budleigh all year round could come under question, after the matter was raised with council officers.
Councillor Tom Wright attended last week’s East Devon District Council development management committee meeting, where an application for a fishing hut on Budleigh beach was given the go-ahead.
The town council has previously queried why a fishing hut would need permission while year-round beach huts would not, and Cllr Wright used the opportunity to raise the matter with the planning department.
Speaking after the meeting, he said: “I asked the committee how this had differed with the situation involving the beach huts which EDDC have decided to have in place all year round.
“I was informed that EDDC was looking into the appropriateness of that decision.”
EDDC announced its plan for year-round beach huts earlier this year, to the annoyance of the town council who feel they will spoil views.
