REGARDING your article entitled "Traffic ban threat defies belief" (Exmouth Journal, June 19).I entirely support the views of Maurice Southwell and his opposition to the proposal to close Queen's Drive spur at certain times. This ill-considered "solution", if one can call it that, really is throwing the baby out with the bath water. The problem is with the behaviour of some of the young drivers who congregate on the front and the solution is to deal with them firmly and in a way that brings it home to them that it is easier to behave or go elsewhere. Why should the many suffer for the actions of the few?The police, sadly, do not figure well in this matter, having failed to sort it out for many years and maybe some of Chief Constable Otter's 200-plus officers taken out of second-line activities to be put into real policing could be spared for the job.Jim Coleborn,18 St Briac Way, Exmouth.
