STUDENTS of Topsham Primary School splashed away and raced all the way to the finish line at this year's swimming gala. The pupils of key stage two, years three, four, five and six, took part in an all-star swimming gala-competing for the top prize and for vital points that would help them win the team of the year.Deputy Head Nasim Hartman said: "All the children took part and loved it but it was a very close finish. We were very lucky that it took place as last year it rained and we had to cancel it."The four house teams of the school to compete were Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby and Topaz, with the Sapphire and Emerald teams jointly winning the gala.Parents and friends turned out to the Topsham open air swimming pool to cheer for their children and the teams as they took part in various exercises including swimming sprints and hoop activities. The students have been practising throughout the summer term in their Physical Education classes, working hard to hone their swimming skills. The Sapphire team won the overall house team of the term.
