AN Exmouth group committed to improving public transport has put together a plan which could see the end of travelling misery and missed connections. The Exmouth Public Transport Partnership has revealed its plans for a 'public transport interchange' which would bring all types of public transport together in one central location. The proposed 'hub' would centre around Exmouth Railway Station and, once in place, could see the end of missed connections and poor services. The partnership hopes the scheme would allow travellers from Exmouth to successfully plan and co-ordinate their journey from one starting point - by train, taxi, bus and even bicycle.Partnership chair man John Wokersien said the need for an improved service was evident in the increased usage of Exmouth station - which grew by 10 per cent last year. He said concessionary fares for senior citizens had increased bus usage and the completion of the Exe Trail cycle route was also adding extra demand for more sustainable transport options. Mr Wokersien said: "The partnership wanted the aspirations for a public transport interchange, fit for the future, to be made clear at this stage when regeneration plans are currently being formulated. It is clear that the demand for all types of public transport in Exmouth is continuing to grow and with pressures on fuel prices this trend is set to continue way into the future. "We have a unique opportunity to ensure that designs for the interchange are properly designed into future development schemes and not dealt with as an afterthought."The partnership is led by Exmouth Town Council and brings together Exmouth's public transport operators.Included in the partnership is Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, Stagecoach, First Great Western, Avocet Line Rail Users Group, Exmouth Taxi Association, Cyclepath Exmouth and Exmouth Community Association public transport group. The group was asked by Cyclepath Exmouth to take on board the town's views and comments expressed by the Exmouth Society, Exmouth Citizens' Forum, Exmouth Residents Association, Exmouth Community Association, Transition Towns Exmouth and the Avocet Line Rail Users Group.
